Gemini Spark is Google's agentic assistant inside the Gemini app, announced at I/O 2026 as an always-on agent that runs on Google's cloud and acts on your behalf across Google services. On 1 July 2026 Google brought it to macOS in beta, where it can act on files stored locally: sorting a messy Downloads folder, or extracting numbers from saved invoices into a new Google Sheets budget. It supports custom Model Context Protocol servers and shipped with connectors for Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable and Zillow Rentals, plus real-time tracking of topics such as scores and markets.
Google says Spark can only use local files you give it permission to access. Availability has been a moving target: it began with Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US, Google cut the entry Ultra price to $99.99 a month at I/O, and later reporting indicates it is rolling out to Pro subscribers in the US. Check current eligibility before paying, since we could not confirm a final entitlement list.
Spark is promising for people already living in Google's ecosystem, but it is a premium, early-stage product. The macOS version is beta and US-only, some announced features are still pending, and an always-on agent with file and account access needs careful supervision. Value scores low mainly because the useful tiers cost $100 a month or more.
