Customer support is the most competitive category in AI agents, and the one where vendor claims diverge most from what buyers actually get. Nearly every platform advertises a deflection or resolution rate; almost none define the term the same way.
We scored the leading platforms on the same five criteria we apply to everything in the directory — capability, ease of use, value, reliability, and support & docs. The table above shows the headline numbers. Below is what each is genuinely for, what it costs in practice, and the pricing structures that decide your bill far more than the sticker price.
Disclosure: AgentsAI's team has a working relationship with Quickchat AI. Its score is computed from the same rubric as every other tool, and you can check the sub-scores on its profile against the methodology. We'd rather name the connection than have you find it.
The ranking
- Quickchat AI — 7.5. Best no-code and multilingual option for SMBs.
- Decagon — 7.4. Highest deflection at enterprise scale.
- Intercom Fin — 7.3. Best-documented resolution rate, priced per outcome.
- Gorgias — 7.1. The eCommerce specialist.
- Tidio — 7.0. Easiest to get running, genuinely usable free plan.
- Zendesk AI — 6.9. Capable, but priced for teams already committed to Zendesk.
- Ultimate AI — 6.9. Broadest language coverage, now Zendesk-only.
- Sierra — 6.7. The most capable agent here, and the hardest to buy.
These are the eight dedicated customer-support platforms. Several voice-first agents (Parloa, Bland AI, Retell AI) and general automation platforms (Lindy) also carry the customer-support tag and score 7.0–7.1 — they appear on the category page and in our voice agents ranking, but they're built for a different job.
1. Quickchat AI — best no-code option
Quickchat scores 8/10 on both capability and ease of use, the only tool in this ranking to manage both. It's genuinely no-code — non-technical teams deploy a working agent in under an hour — and supports 100+ languages with automatic detection, which is decisive if you sell across borders and can't staff support per language. The RAG knowledge base accepts up to 4,000 files, and pricing is publicly listed, including a $0.50/resolution enterprise tier.
Watch out for: it's entirely dependent on OpenAI models, with no option to switch to Anthropic, Gemini or open-source. The free and $9 Starter plans are heavily credit-limited — real production use starts at the $29 Basic tier — and AI Actions only unlock at $99/month. It's also narrowly scoped to conversational agents, without broader process automation.
Best for: SMBs and agencies deploying multilingual support without engineering resources.
2. Decagon — highest enterprise deflection
Decagon reports 75–80% ticket deflection in production at enterprise customers, the highest credible figure in the category. As of March 2026 roughly 80% of its traffic runs on proprietary models fine-tuned specifically on support conversations rather than general-purpose LLMs. Coverage spans chat, email, voice with sub-second latency, and SMS from one platform, and Agent Operating Procedures let CX teams change workflows in plain language without engineering.
Watch out for: no free tier, no trial, no public pricing — Vendr data puts enterprise contracts between $95K and $590K+ per year. Implementation runs 4–12 weeks and needs ongoing engineering bandwidth. The Agent Assist copilot works only with Zendesk.
Best for: large enterprises on Zendesk, Salesforce or Kustomer automating high volume across channels.
3. Intercom Fin — best-evidenced resolution rate
Fin averages a 67% resolution rate across all customers, and the significant part is "across all customers" rather than a best-case reference account. Pricing is $0.99 per resolution — you pay for outcomes, not seats — and coverage includes voice, image input, email and chat, with deep integrations into Salesforce, Shopify, Stripe, Zendesk, HubSpot and Jira. Compliance is comprehensive: SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001/27018/27701/42001.
Watch out for: at $0.99 per resolution, high-volume teams routinely see four-figure monthly Fin bills on top of Intercom itself. Setup is complex. And Intercom's own support has well-documented 7+ day first-response times — worth knowing before you depend on it.
Best for: mid-to-large companies with high volume that want an agent taking autonomous action, not answering FAQs.
4. Gorgias — best for eCommerce
Gorgias has the deepest commerce integration here: read-write access to Shopify, BigCommerce and Magento means the agent edits orders and issues refunds without leaving the helpdesk. AI Agent 2.0 autonomously resolves around 60% of common post-purchase tickets, and unlimited agent seats from the Basic plan up means growing the team doesn't grow the bill.
Watch out for: double billing. AI resolutions cost $0.90–$1.00 on top of the base ticket charge, which makes traffic spikes expensive and hard to forecast — the reason value scores 5/10. It's strictly eCommerce, the AI Agent doesn't handle voice (the human inbox does), and the Starter plan's 50 tickets/month is a trial rather than a plan.
Best for: Shopify, BigCommerce and Magento merchants scaling post-purchase support.
5. Tidio — easiest to start
Tidio scores highest on ease of use (8/10) outside Quickchat. Its Lyro agent runs on Anthropic's Claude and handles natural language well with minimal configuration, Shopify/WordPress/Wix installs take under an hour, and the free plan is genuinely useful rather than a demo.
Watch out for: Lyro and Flows are billed separately, so real costs land well above the headline price. The pricing ladder jumps from Growth ($59–$349) straight to Plus ($749) with nothing between. Native integrations are thin — most connections route through Zapier — and there's no voice or advanced ticket routing.
Best for: SMBs and smaller stores that want AI chat working this week.
6. Zendesk AI — best if you're already on Zendesk
Zendesk AI benefits from proprietary CX models trained on decades of support data and integration across tickets, voice, chat and help centre with no stitching. Its AI agent is priced per resolution, which aligns cost with value.
Watch out for: the total. Suite plans start at $55/agent/month and Copilot adds $50/agent/month on top, with per-resolution AI fees beyond that. There's no free tier and AI sits behind paid add-ons on an already premium base. Capability is 8/10 — the 6.9 overall is driven entirely by price (value 5/10) and setup effort (ease of use 6/10), not by what the agent can do.
Best for: enterprise teams already committed to Zendesk, where the integration saves more than the add-on costs.
7. Ultimate AI — broadest language coverage
Ultimate AI natively supports 109 languages, the widest multilingual coverage in the category, with 60–80% automation rates at brands including Finnair, Zalando and TaskRabbit. SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliant out of the box.
Watch out for: it's no longer sold standalone. It now requires a Zendesk Suite subscription, which means hard lock-in and a total cost that rules out SMBs entirely. The acquisition has also introduced roadmap uncertainty.
Best for: enterprise Zendesk customers with genuinely global, multilingual support volume.
8. Sierra — most capable, hardest to buy
Sierra has the highest capability score in this ranking (9/10). It routes across 15+ specialised models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta per task, covers chat, voice, SMS, WhatsApp, email and ChatGPT, and its Expert Answers feature auto-generates grounded knowledge articles from resolved conversations so the agent improves over time. Outcome-based pricing means escalations to humans are free. Over 40% of the Fortune 50 are customers.
So why 6.7? Ease of use scores 4/10 and value 4/10. Year-one cost routinely lands at $200K–$350K+ including $50K–$200K setup, deployment takes 3–7 months, there's no self-serve access at all, and the proprietary Agent OS creates real lock-in. It's an excellent product that most companies cannot buy.
Best for: large enterprises with the budget and timeline to run a full implementation.
The pricing model matters more than the price
Four structures are in play here, and they behave very differently at volume:
| Model | Who uses it | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Per resolution | Fin ($0.99), Sierra, Zendesk, Quickchat ($0.50 enterprise) | Vendor loses money when the agent fails — best alignment |
| Per resolution plus base ticket | Gorgias ($0.90–$1.00 + ticket) | You pay twice for the same conversation |
| Per agent seat | Zendesk ($55 + $50 Copilot) | Scales with headcount, not with value delivered |
| Tiered credits | Quickchat, Tidio | Cheap to start; overages are where surprises live |
Per-resolution pricing is the structure to prefer, with one caveat: check who defines "resolved." If the vendor counts a conversation the customer abandoned as a resolution, the alignment disappears.
Deflection is not resolution
The headline metric in this category is close to meaningless as usually quoted. Deflection counts conversations that didn't reach a human — including customers who gave up. Resolution counts conversations where the customer's problem was actually solved. A platform can post an excellent deflection rate by being hard to escalate from.
When comparing vendors, ask for resolution rate with the definition attached, CSAT on AI-handled conversations specifically, and escalation rate. If a vendor will only discuss deflection, that's the answer to your question.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI customer support agent in 2026? It depends on size and stack. Quickchat AI scores highest overall (7.5) and is the strongest no-code multilingual option for SMBs. Decagon posts the highest enterprise deflection. Gorgias is the best fit for eCommerce, and Intercom Fin has the best-documented resolution rate across its whole customer base.
How much do AI customer support agents cost? SMB plans start free to around $50/month. Per-resolution pricing runs $0.50–$1.00 on self-serve platforms (Quickchat $0.50, Fin $0.99, Gorgias up to $1.00) and roughly $1.50–$2.00 on enterprise ones (Decagon, Zendesk, Ultimate). Enterprise platforms are far higher — Decagon contracts are estimated at $95K–$590K+ per year, and Sierra's year-one total routinely reaches $200K–$350K+ including setup.
What percentage of tickets can AI agents resolve? Credible production figures run 60–80% on routine, well-documented queries: Decagon reports 75–80% deflection, Ultimate 60–80% automation, Gorgias around 60% of post-purchase tickets, and Fin a 67% resolution rate across all customers. Rates are much lower on complex, novel or emotionally charged cases — and should be.
Can AI agents replace human support agents? Not entirely, and the deployments that try tend to damage the brand. Agents handle the routine tier, which is most of the volume; humans handle exceptions, escalations and anything where the customer is upset. The realistic effect is a smaller team handling far more volume, with harder cases reaching people faster.
What's the best free AI customer support agent? Tidio has the most genuinely useful free plan, including live chat, help desk and basic AI. Quickchat AI also offers a free tier, though both are credit-limited enough that production use requires a paid plan.
Which AI support agent works with Shopify? Gorgias has the deepest Shopify integration — read-write access lets it edit orders and issue refunds directly. Tidio installs on Shopify in under an hour for lighter needs. See our eCommerce AI agents guide for the full picture.
